Shiloh's Care Team Coordinator: Catherine Caruso, Counselor
Care Team Programs
Care Teams are made up of
staff from local schools that meet regularly to plan and carry out
projects that assist their students. While the nature of these projects
varies to meet the diversified needs of individual schools, in general,
Care Team efforts enhance students’ resiliency and support academic
success by building personal and community assets and by eliminating
barriers that impede student achievement.
Care Teams at many schools
provide financial assistance for necessities such as clothing,
eyeglasses, and food as well as scholarships for tutoring, field trips,
and extracurricular activities.
Additionally, Care Teams at many schools sponsor programs
including peer mediation, drug prevention, diversity awareness, and
mentoring.
Care Team coordinators should
refer to the letter from the GCPS Office of Finance and Accounting for
details and guidelines that must be followed for raising and spending
Care Team monies. In order
to share funds with other schools, this goal must be written in the
plans when you begin fund raising efforts.
"All the Reforms in
the World Won't Mean a Thing If We Don't Have Safe Classrooms for
Students to Learn and Teachers to Teach and one of
the keys to prevention we learned is we as adults in our homes,
our schools and our communities, must do a better job of listening to
kids, paying attention and connecting on a personal level.”
